Espresso Exchanges Episode 37: Saad Sami

Share Via:

I had the pleasure of discussing career pathways and networking with Saad Sami, a dynamic National Business Development Director with a background in chemical engineering. Saad shared insights into his career transition, the importance of networking, and his vision for the future.

📍Q: With a background in chemical engineering, what inspired your transition into business development and sales roles across multiple industries?

Saad: “My transition into business development was somewhat serendipitous. Initially part of a graduate program in an oil refinery, I quickly realised that operations were not my calling. I was more intrigued by interactions with people rather than the monotony of screens. This revelation led me away from operations, and I never looked back.”

📍Q: How important has networking been in your career? What strategies would you suggest for students looking to start building their professional network?

Saad: “Networking is a cornerstone of business development. The connections you make are not just contacts; they carry potential opportunities that might knock at any time. For those just starting, remember: networking is your chance to showcase who you are. Approach it as an opportunity to express your personality and value, not just as a transaction.”

📍Q: Looking ahead, what are your long-term career goals, and how do you plan to achieve them?

Saad: “While the idea of retiring sounds appealing, my immediate focus is on excelling in my new role at Amberjack Global APAC. Fusion plays a critical role in shaping end-to-end graduate strategies, and I’m looking forward to growing with the company and helping it achieve its strategic objectives.”

📍Q: One message for the world?

Saad: “Always be kind. We all face our own struggles, and a little kindness and empathy can make a significant difference in someone’s life.”

✨Key Takeaways: Saad emphasizes the unplanned aspects of career development, highlighting how being open to change can lead to fulfilling opportunities. His approach to networking, focused on genuine connections rather than transactions, offers valuable lessons for professionals at any stage of their career.
