Espresso Exchanges Episode 52: Sara Singh Tak

I sat down with Sara Singh Tak⚡️, the founder of Humans of Australia, a growing media platform that brings visibility to the untold, the underrepresented, and the often-overlooked. What started as street interviews in Melbourne has now grown into a podcast, content studio, and social impact movement. Sara’s voice is bold, her mission is clear, and her work reminds us of the power of storytelling, when it’s unfiltered, unpolished, and deeply human.

📍Q: You’ve built Humans of Australia into a growing platform for real, raw stories. What was the moment that made you say: “I have to start this”?

Sara: “Growing up, I consumed a lot of Western TV shows and movies, they often portrayed struggle as something romantic or polished. But when I moved here, I quickly realised that no one was talking about what the experience was actually like. Everything felt sugar-coated. I didn’t see the kind of real stories I was living and witnessing. That’s when it clicked. I made it my mission to show the raw, unfiltered version, so people could see themselves in someone else’s story.”

📍Q: What’s one moment, maybe a story or message from someone, that reminded you why you do what you do?

Sara: “The very first story I shared was about someone I knew, a person who always seemed full of life, always up for anything. But when I sat down to hear their story, I learned about the struggles they had faced, the pain they had carried. It made me stop and really reflect. That was the moment I realised: we rarely know the full story of the people around us. This work lets us see behind the curtain, and that’s powerful.”

📍Q: What advice would you give to someone who has an idea and wants to turn it into a meaningful, mission-led project, but doesn’t know where to start?

Sara: “Just start. Whatever idea you have right now, it will evolve. But it can’t evolve unless you begin. You’ll make mistakes, you’ll course-correct, and that’s all part of it. Don’t aim for perfection. Action creates clarity. The rest will follow.”

📍Q: One message for the world?

Sara: “Just do it. Go after the thing that’s in your mind. There’s no age limit, no perfect time. If not now, then when? YOLO.”

✨Key Takeaway:

Sara’s voice cuts through the noise, not with volume, but with honesty. Humans of Australia is more than a content platform; it’s a mirror to the parts of ourselves we often hide. Her journey is a call to action for anyone sitting on an idea, waiting for permission. You don’t need perfect. You need to start.
