I caught up with Zoë Wood, founder of Your Obvious Choice Wingwoman, a video confidence coach who helps quiet standouts step into visibility without the noise, the cringe, or the pressure to “sell themselves.” After years working behind the camera, Zoë made a deliberate shift, from producing videos to helping people feel confident enough to be seen in them.
📍 Q: You’ve worked behind the camera for years. What shifted when you decided to step into coaching and confidence-building instead?
Zoë: “There wasn’t some big, dramatic moment, but there was a feeling that really annoyed me. I realised I was giving away the confidence part of my work for free. Helping people feel comfortable, not cringe, not embarrassed, that was always part of the job so they’d actually want to put their videos out there.
I’d been doing that since I was about 14. Over time, I started building systems, using what I’d learned through schools, production, and real-world experience. Eventually it became clear: the confidence side wasn’t a bonus, it was the work.”
📍 Q: You’re very clear about avoiding empty noise and “selling yourself.” How can people build a personal brand that feels honest, not performative?
Zoë: “It starts with having a clear message. People think personal branding is about looking inward, but it’s just as much about the community you’re speaking to. You need to understand who’s listening, what they care about, and how they hear things.
When you know your audience implicitly, you stop posturing. You stop performing. You start communicating, and that’s what makes it feel real.”
📍 Q: If someone feels invisible despite having real expertise, what’s the first small step you’d encourage them to take?
Zoë: “Talk to people just outside your comfort zone. Not friends, not family, not staff, but someone with no stake in your outcome. Go to a networking event. Speak to a stranger.
It’s freeing. Once you start talking about what you do and why it matters, you let go of the heaviness of trying to impress or convince. You’re not swaying them, you’re just being you.”
📍 Q: One message for the world
Zoë: “Chill the f*** out. It’s not that deep.”
✨ Key Takeaway:
Zoë’s perspective is a reminder that confidence isn’t about becoming louder, it’s about becoming clearer. When you stop performing and start communicating, visibility feels less like pressure and more like permission to show up as you already are.
